New Jersey is part of the New York metropolitan area which is served by
three of the world’s busiest airports, John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and
Newark Liberty International Airport. The latter is in the city of
Newark, and is 15 miles (24 km) southwest of midtown Manhattan. It is
the oldest of the 3 New York airfields, having opened in 1928 as the
first major airport in the United States.
